Ownership verified by DX Good Light but shuts off on high
Posted by jeffmorris101 on 7/23/2009
Involvement: General (knows how to use it) - Ownership: 1 day to 1 week

Price: starstarstarstarstar
Ease of Use: starstarstarstarstar
Build Quality: starstarstarstar
Usefulness: starstarstarstarstar
Overall Rating: starstarstarstar

Pros: Great light and well constructed. everything functions as it should. Threads are great and it is sealed nicely. Seems like a rugged flashlight and should last me a long time.

Cons: In high mode it shuts off after 30 secs, then 20, then 10 and so on. Seems as though it is over heating??

Other Thoughts: Seems to be working just fine in the other modes.

Bottomline: If i needed a flashlight to work for me i wouldn't want it to simply stop working on me when i need it the most. This only seems to be happening in high mode.

Ownership verified by DX well built very bright compact flashlight

Price: starstarstarstar
Ease of Use: starstarstarstarstar
Build Quality: starstarstarstar

Pros: * very bright
* different brightness modes and features
* very well built (except for clip)
* easy to use/change modes

Cons: * the clip is very flimsy. It got bent the first day with normal use, and broke completely after a month. Being able to carry with a clip is very convenient so it's a big deal that it broke. pockets make it less easy to access.

Other Thoughts: This is the same flashlight as the extreme beam tactical SAR 5 light (http://www.extremebeamtactical.com/products_sar5.html) which runs $147

Bottomline: awesome little light, but don't count on being able to wear it on your belt with the clip. It's far too flimsy.

Ownership verified by DX Excellent flashlight, must-have for this price

Price: starstarstarstarstar
Ease of Use: starstarstarstar
Build Quality: starstarstarstar
Usefulness: starstarstarstarstar
Overall Rating: starstarstarstarstar

Pros: + Surprisingly bright
+ Hell, even brighter than "surprisingly bright"!
+ Clean white color of light
+ Good throw and spill
+ Beam is well-focused and spot has even shape
+ Build quality is very good
+ Double sealing o-rings
+ Remembers last used mode
+ Lots of modes

Cons: - Gets warm during operations
- Not a con, but a black one would be welcome
- Clip is a bit flimsy and might scratch body (haven't done it so though)
- Two-piece construction doesn't allow much modification\maintenance

Other Thoughts: I guess the light is cheap enough for me to by a test one and abuse it horribly just to see what it is capable of. Really wonder how it will act in very moist or cold environment.

Bottomline: * Price\bang ratio is excellent with this one! Great EDC flashlight, powerful enough, light, very well built. Will probably by some more and stuff them in all cars and keep couple at home as well.
Can't really see how this light can be any better for any given price, for the one it sells here the torch is really amazing.

Ownership verified by DX Akoray K-109 - Impressive little light!

Pros: + Small size
+ 6 modes with memory
+ Threads are clean and well-machined
+ Very bright on high setting
+ Double O-rings on barrel
+ Good light quality - strong & white
+ LED centered well
+ Light stands upright
The K-109 is a great EDC light. I was initially hesitant to purchase this light because I had not heard of this manufacturer before, but now I'm glad I did. Small enough to clip to inside of pants pocket. Cross hatch design of barrel affords easy grip. Clicky switch is stiff, but I like a stiff switch so I know light will not accidentally turn on if bumped. Mode switch is done by gently pressing clicky switch after turning on light. I found switching between modes easy enough. Good spring quality (my last light died because the spring was too thin and broke off from endcap). Using primary battery (Duracell Ultra DL123A) provides very impressive output quality.

Cons: - Would have preferred black body instead of gray
- Orange rubber switch cover stands out too much - would be better if same color as body

Other Thoughts:

Bottomline: Great EDC even if carried in pants pocket instead of using clip. Well-machined and well designed. Bright, centered beam with good throw. Would definitely recommend this to others.
